It’s Not Even Thanksgiving Yet

And today I decided to compile my list of movies that I will be watching this Christmas season with the generous help of our local library, netflix, and perhaps, youtube.

So in no particular order, these are either movies about Christmas (i.e. traditional Christmas movies) or movies that evoke Christmas-y thoughts.

1. White Christmas
White Christmas
It’s a Classic with a capital C. Great story, great songs. "Sisters" as sung by Danny Kaye and Bing Crosby. Enough Said.

2. Prancer
Prancer
I love this story. And Sam Elliot reminds me of my dad.

3. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the original cartoon version)
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
LOVE this version and it has an awesome soundtrack that will make you happy. Also, I’m thinking I should get an antler for Patches this year. That would make a great Christmas family photo.

4. Little Women
Little Women
It starts off with Christmas and a lot of snow. It makes you want to live in New England and play dress up in the attic with your sisters. Trust me, warm and cozy feelings are a guarantee.

5. Meet Me in St. Louis
Meet Me In St. Louis
This movie goes through all the seasons but it has great songs including “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”. Classic.

6. Love Actually
Love Actually
This one is a bit controversial. There are parts that you need to forward though. But it’s funny and charming. And it’s a lot of fun to take turns verbally abusing Alan Rickman’s secretary with your roommates (if you have them) every time she appears on the screen. I'm going to have to show Zach how to do it.

7. It’s a Wonderful Life
It's A Wonderful Life
Jimmy Stewart and Christmas. You can’t get more classic (or classy) than that.

8. The Holiday
The Holiday
I’m going to be honest and say that I watch this movie for 3 reasons: the Kate Winslet storyline, the English Cottage (pictures above, aka my dream house), and the tent. But those are three pretty darn good reasons.

9. You’ve Got Mail
You've Got Mail
Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan can do no wrong together. This movie really does make you want to buy bouquets of sharpened pencils and find a river you can skate away on. Word.

10. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
Love this movie, love the songs, and there’s a lot of snow. Like a LOT. Like, an avalanche.

11. Home Alone
Home Alone
If you grew up in the 90s this is probably one of your favorite movies and for good reason: it’s AWESOME.

12. Miracle on 34th Street (the original with Maureen O’Hara and Natalie Wood as a child)

Yay for Black and White movies! He is the best Santa.

13. The Muppet Christmas Carol
Muppet Christmas Carol
I’ma be honest again: I don’t much care for Dickens. But I do like Muppets. And Michael Kane.

14. Elf
Elf
This is a very new addition but it A) is funny, B) has Zooey Deschanel (even though she’s blonde?) and C) She sings.

15. A Christmas Story, my husband says this is a must watch. I’ve actually never seen it.
A Christmas Story
I know, I know, how I managed to make it to adulthood without the experience of A Christmas Story is unfathomable. Maybe I’m not a grown up yet? So there.

What’s on your list? Did I miss anything?

  2. The clay-mation one? I guess so. I also like the one about Santa. I need to read the Polar Express but not necessarily watch the movie I think.

  3. David introduced me into a new one... The Bernstein Bears Christmas :)

  4. I LOVE the Bernstein Bears! That's so crazy I was just adding a bunch of their books to my Amazon wish list a couple of days ago. I'll have to look for the movie :)
